Edgewood Services took 1^st place at DOU Hackathon competition

DOU Hackathon is the event, where developers meet to do collaborative computer programming. Edgewood Services’s team of engineers participated in Hackathon competition in November 2011. They stayed up all night to develop and present a finished product, competing with developers from other IT companies of Ukraine. 

At first, our team discussed what project is better to perform. We decided to develop computer  control system for the toy helicopter from scratch (C++ on Windows platform; C, Assembler on Arduino platform). To perform this, we had only 24 hours to write a working application and demonstrate it to the participants.

After the first successful stages of development, we came across some challenges.  We had the inappropriate description of the protocol of the helicopters control (from the other model of helicopters). Thus, we had to do reverse engineering in order to find out how to control our type of helicopter. After recording and finding regularities in the stream of commands from the factory remote control, a lot of records of flights were collected. When we decided to play the records from the PC, the helicopter exactly repeated the previous flight. As a result, we presented abilities  of our software:  control of the helicopter and replay of the previously recorded flight.

We were happy to know that the majority of participants voted in favor of Edgewood Services project. Our team took the 1^st place at this DOU Hackathon  competition.

What did we experience from this competition? Great feeling of being a team, of performing  problem solution and results  in a short period of time.

The first Hackathon was held in Ukraine in June 2011. All developers enjoyed it so much that now this IT round-clock marathon is  organized regularly.

            ActionBase Fireworks at Lviv Arena Stadium Opening

Our company is proud to make the engineering contribution to the development of the modern technologies and embedded software/hardware in Ukraine. Participating in the events of state significance, within the framework of preparation to UEFA EURO 2012 football championship, proves reliability and safety of the embedded systems we develop.  

At the end of October our engineers came to Lviv to assist in installing ActionBase system  for the opening ceremony of Arena Lviv stadium. Currently, it is one of the newest stadiums in Europe. It will host three Euro 2012 group matches in June.

         The opening ceremony of the Stadium took place on October 29. The grand pyromusical show was organized for more than 30,000 visitors by Didzhereffects company on the basis of ActionBase Fireworks equipment, designed and implemented by Edgewood Services engineers. The laser show and theatrical performance, in which 2000 actors performed the episodes of the glorious Lviv city history, amused the audience. Our company is glad to acknowledge that embedded solutions in combination with pyrotechnic art bring joy and excitement to people!

      Our Engineer Visited Pyrotechnic Forum "HIGH FLIGHT - 2011"

       October 25-28, 2011

      Pyrotechnic International Forum "HIGH FLIGHT - 2011" was held first October 25 - 28, 2011, near the Russian capital, Moscow. The guests and participants were submitted by the representatives of France, Germany, Malta and China. The forum was also attended by the representative of Edgewood Services, Andrey Gordeev, a leading developer of hardware-software complexes Action Base & OpenPyro for fireworks shows.

       The groups of companies «PIROFF», organizers of the Forum, were very pleased with the interesting and rich program. It included round tables, training workshops, discussions, an exhibition of pyrotechnic equipment and naturally the great 40-minutes fireworks show, organized by the joint efforts.   

      Along with other representatives, such as the presidents of companies ACME FIREWORKS Co. Ltd - Jan Chaovey from China (PRC) and the ARTS PIROTECHNICS Co. Ltd - Tom Chen (China) who talked about a new pyrotechnic products and their manufacturing process; Nicholas Spiteri, a leading specialist of Fire One company (Malta), who presented to the participants of the traditional Maltese land figures - "The Maltese wheel "; our representative of Edgewood Services  Andrey Gordeev reported about the hardware software complex Action Base, with a description of the device and sharing success stories. Also it is necessary to emphasize that more than 7 years Andrew has been developing hardware-software systems for fireworks shows on the market of Eastern Europe.

       The HIGH FLIGHT forum provided an opportunity to share experiences, gain new knowledge and establish new contacts in the global pyrotechnics market. It is expected that HIGH FLIGHT will become an annual international event.  

       P.S.  April 23 - 27, 2012 Malta will be held the 13th International Fireworks Symposium.

         ActionBase Fireworks at the Opening Ceremony of Kyiv Olympic Stadium 

October 8, 2011 

Edgewood Services’ engineers had the honor to participate in the opening ceremony of Kyiv Olympic Stadium built for the Uefa Euro 2012 final. Together with pyrotechnists from Didzhereffects company, we organized fantastic fireworks show using ActionBase Fireworks system, a hardware-software complex designed by our developers.  About 60 000 viewers enjoyed this spectacular show!     

The opening ceremony took place on October 8, 2011. The President of Ukraine, Viktor Yanukovych, government leaders, sports stars, football clubs owners and other VIP guests attended this solemn event.

A large team of professionals worked to create spectacular fireworks displays, organized with the help of latest computer technologies. Our engineers consulted and helped to install the ActionBase Fireworks system – hardware and software complex, designed especially for the large-scale shows. This system allows not only to create original fireworks scenarios in sync with music. It also gives opportunity to view the future fireworks in real-time, showing broad panorama of the area on the screen of PC. Thus, the opening ceremony on the stadium ended with a complex pyrotechnic show over the heads of excited audience.  

Euro 2012 Football Championship. The great opening of the Euro 2012  will be held in Warsaw (Poland) while the final will take place in Kiev (Ukraine). As it widely known, this tournament will be co-hosted by Ukraine and Poland from June 8, till July 1, 2012. This tournament will be the third competition in the European football history organized by two countries. It is expected that during the Euro 2012 from 800 thousand to 1.4 million tourists will visit Ukraine.
